Urban Planters, Traditional Planters, or Modern Planters..?

A 'planter' is simply a word for a decorative plant pot or container. Styles are myriad, so whether you are on the look out for urban planters or more traditional-style planters there is something to suit you. Using containers for your plants allows you ultimate versatility, increased accessibility, flexibility and less weeding. Planters and window-boxes are as popular in Glasgow as they are anywhere else, and increasingly popular with long-term renters.

Planters come in all shapes and sizes, constructed from everything from fibreglass to terracotta, and can be used to divide up spaces, add curb appeal to entrances, and to allow you to take your plants with you when you move house. Planters should be installed with ample drainage, a geotextile fabric to prevent muddy water flowing out of the base (drainage holes in the bottom of the plant pots are critical!), and ideally a nice mulch around the base of the plant to keep the soil damp and cool. It should be remembered that planters need watering, and there is not really a way round this, though having planters installed in Glasgow is likely to mean you'll be getting a bit more help from the rain than you might elsewhere.

Planters are a great addition to a patio, helping you to divide up the space and create a separate 'room' within your garden. They also mean that it is easier to have plants at a height where you can appreciate delicate scents such as given off by Lavender or Philadelphus.

In Glasgow, planters and windowboxes have become increasingly popular with renters, and with people looking to brighten up courtyard gardens, or add a touch of class to their front entrances. Something to remember when installing planters or windowboxes is that if they sit under the eaves of your house, they will get less rain and so may need more watering.
